Prestige and prizes await amateur photographers entering the 9th Annual New Mexico Magazine Photo Contest, co-sponsored by the Eloquent Light Photography Workshops, Santa Fe.
The grand prize winner will receive a week long workshop from the Eloquent Light Photography Workshops as well as six nights lodging at The Lodge at Santa Fe.
“We’re thrilled to be building on this successful tradition,” said New Mexico Magazine publisher, Ethel Hess, today, noting that last year, more than 350 photographers entered approximately 1500 images. “With entrants from across New Mexico and the nation, the contest not only highlights the legacy of New Mexico photography, but also celebrates the land and people we love.”
Co-sponsor Eloquent Light Photography is the brainchild of photographer/instructor Craig Varjabedian, known for his recent book, Ghost Ranch and the Faraway Nearby (UNM Press) and his current exhibit of the same name at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History through October 11.
Additional prizes include software-and-equipment packages courtesy of Bogen Imaging, OnOne Software, Nik Software, Foliolink, West Coast Imaging, Manfrotto, X-rite, Lowepro, Alien Skin Software, SanDisk, UNM Press, and Photoworkshop.com.
All winning photos, plus some honorable mentions, will be published in the January 2010 issue of New Mexico Magazine. A slideshow of all winners and more will be on view at www.nmmagazine.com throughout 2010.
New this year, prizes will be awarded for best of each category: Landmarks, Landscapes, People, Wildlife, and Miscellaneous.
Winners will be juried by a panel of three experts: Craig Varjabedian, director of the Eloquent Light Photography Workshops; Fabian West, art director of New Mexico Magazine; and Cathy Wright, director of the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. Judges’ decision is final.
New Mexico Magazine is a division of the New Mexico Tourism Department. Founded in 1922, it is the nation’s first state magazine and third largest by circulation.
The deadline for submissions is September 21, 2009.
