Our image selection for mid-September is the moody "Fence as Skeleton," by W. Denton Dobbs of Vanderhoof, British Columbia.

About the Image:  "I had been waiting for foggy conditions for some time and had this location in mind.  It was a former farm left abandoned near my home town.  The setting had inspired me because of the decayed nature of the fences and outbuildings contrasted with the vigorous regrowth of grasses.  Also the wet grass against the misty backdrop provided good texture related contrast too.  Not long after I captured the image the buildings and land were bulldozed; nothing left now but empty land."

About the Photographer:  "I'm very much a conventional photographer.  My first love and greatest challenge is black-and-white, and while I sometimes use digital tools, most of my monochrome work comes out of a traditional darkroom.  I look for simplicity in subject matter and often exploit texture and pattern elements to strengthen a photograph's statement. Persistence factors into many shots; I have been known to revisit the same place many times to get the shot I'm looking for."

Technical Data: "Camera: Minolta SRT 202, 50mm prime lens, f-stop unrecorded (but probably f/5.6), shutter speed also unrecorded (but likely 1/60 second). Film: ISO 200 Fujicolor Superia scanned at the lab and converted to black-and-white in Adobe Photoshop.  I increased the contrast setting of the grass slightly to bring out the pattern and texture."
