Cruise along with Judith Farber on a fun filled inspiring photographic learning journey.
What are your photographic goals?
The Sundays in NY workshop is offered every Sunday at various locations around NYC. In good weather we do ethnic neighborhoods, in cold weather we use indoor venues (twice a month, a Saturday session is available through DPA - The Digital Photo Academy).
Participating in this fee based compositional workshop is geared to those who want to improve "how to see" photographically, going from snap shots to fine art. This is not a walking tour (there's plenty of those out there), but a real street photography workshop. I am in your face as you shoot, offering suggestions/feedback/tips. Then try out the suggestions immediately. The groups are small with a lot of individualized one on one attention. All cameras from cells to point and shoot to professional SLR's are welcome, including all photo levels, beginners to professionals.
The sessions last 3 hrs. The more you show me your images as you shoot, the more feedback you will receive and the more you will improve your compositional skills. There is not another photo workshop like this in the tri-state area that offers this kind of personalized individualized attention after clicking the shutter.
At the end of our session, we also go over your images while reconfirming suggestions, and you begin to "get it," understanding what to be aware of the next time you pick up your camera. Participants always come away with a better perspective and understanding in how to get more fine art images.
There is a crucial protocol when photographing on the streets. For the streets are pure theater without the obtrusive fixture of a stage. View actors, poets, dancers, mothers, fathers, children, all living moments without a script. It's a photographer's paradise.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS: SUNDAY March 7th - The NY Public Library 12:30 - 3:30PM *SATURDAY MARCH 13th - The NY Public Library 1:15-4:15PM *SATURDAY MARCH 27th - The Museum of Natural History 1-4PM
The New York Library, a magnificent Beaux-Arts landmark building with spectacular rooms of marble or wood, is my favorite indoor location. This Library has evolved into one of the world's preeminent public resources for the study of human thought, action, and experience -- from anthropology and archaeology, to religion, sports, world history, and literature. There are so many inspiring photo ops in this one location with few people to get in our way. This is a must place to experience and photograph.

Some comments from Participants: Thank you for taking the time and effort to teach. Within the first 15 mins of your class I could not recognize the pictures on the back of my camera's LCD screen as mine! But most importantly after the class, pictures I took were completely different than those before - looks like I have been able at least to some extent assimilate what you taught us. That in itself speaks volumes about your teaching skills. I would love to join your classes again in future. - Roy from NJ
Thank you for your kind words and support during the photo workshop. The workshop was fabulous, and I learned so much during the two sessions. Also, I too really enjoyed your company and the company of the others in the workshop. Judith, you are a wonderful person, and a great photographer and teacher. Thanks again. - Fred Moody from upstate, NY

I had a wonderful time shooting with you at the Museum of Natural History. After reviewing my photos, I realized how much I am learning to visualize and to take my time. I hope to grasp the concept that less is more when taking photographs and that simplicity tells a better story. You made the session interesting and taught us many different techniques of composition. I also appreciate the fact that you took the time to review and critique our pictures. You have opened up my eyes to observe and be patient.Thank you for a great day and as always I look forward to shooting with you. - Lourdes from NY
Thanks for the great afternoon at the Met. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and learned a lot! - Rachel from NY
Thanks for the great day. I enjoyed the input and it gives me something solid to work on. I will be unable to attend tomorrow, but look forward to seeing the schedule on your website for other opportunities. - Karen from NJ
Thanks so much for a great day of shooting, I was very pleased with what I got and look forward to getting out with you again. - Michele from NY
I'm very happy to have met you and enjoyed listening and absorbing your feedback/comments. The pictures I took with you turned out much more focused and definitely moving away from "snapshot" category. - Camila from NY
Thanks for the walk to Queens today, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. We did a lot of walking, but we also saw quite a bit, and I'm looking over my photos and making some corrections. -Madge from NY
Judith is an amazing photographer and an excellent teacher!!! To be able to be taught how to shoot pictures correctly, get tips, and critique throughout the workshop is awesome! This was my second workshop and won't be my last :) -Tina from NY
I must say that working with her for those few hours I gained a new perspective, a new way of looking at both people and architecture. Almost feels like a leap for me. -Carole from Los Angeles
I am a true beginner at photography, and never taken a photo class. I was very reluctant to participate thinking I would be left behind. Being hands on and learning as you shoot, Judith was able to give individual attention and teach me some basic information that would not have been the same if I had read it in a book. This was invaluable! I view my surroundings differently now. Thank you Judith for your patience while also inspiring me. -Caren from Ohio
I was quite the skeptical one with my short visit to NY, paying for a programme with my point and shoot. Judith responded in humour that it was not about the camera, but the bloke behind it. My travel photos are definitely boring, so I signed up. I asked too many questions and Judith graciously answered and the insight was worth every Pound! Cheers! -JD from the UK
I really enjoyed the photo-walk we had on Sunday, I was happy to hear your tips and observations along the walk regarding the shots I took. It made me think for the first time about my photos - what I like to shoot and what interests me. -Uri from Israel
Thanks a lot again for an excellent workshop! I did take a lot from our session and am much more conscious about what I am shooting and what to take pics of... (the number of pics taken actually declined after the session, and yet the number of not boring pictures increased a lot). -Joerg from Germany
Judith, thank you so much. I came to this workshop not knowing anything about my vision or my style, but with your help I have a better understanding of what that means and what my focus is. I am excited! -Andre from NJ
You have taken my boring dull vision and turned it into a fine art masterpiece! What an improvement in how I see the world through a lens now! -Jennifer from Manhattan
I really enjoyed it. Definitely has me thinking about patterns and color. Also, sometimes I can get too close and need to back off as you suggested. -Chris from NY
I really enjoyed High Line Park. Just starting to look through my pics and I believe I have a few I can work with. Thanks again Judith for another great experience and taking the time to look through the pics I took and offering suggestions to make them better. I hope to get some practice in before next time we meet. -Kim from Staten Island
I found the workshop very enjoyable and think it's a great source for enhancing your photography knowledge especially if you are new to photography. If you are a more advanced photographer there is always something new to learn. It's also fun to photograph with others who love photography, I will now try to be more aware of holding my camera straight and taking the time to watch for any distracting objects in the four corners of the frame. -Annette from Manhattan
I signed up what I thought was a photo tour of NY with other like-minded photographers but ended up learning so much about how to see as a professional photographer. Now I understand what I have been doing wrong for so many years. I liked how you think outside the box, and I never thought of looking up, behind, under, etc. A whole new world opened up. I came away with so much more. -Jackie from CA
Sundays in NY Workshop' is independent of Photoworkshop.com. Photoworkshop.com (PWS) was created as an educational site to assist those who desire to improve their photo skills via critiques, assignments, photo sharing, etc, with camaraderie and friendships thrown in. PWS is the "catalyst" offering a variety of learning tools. Since it's about learning at your own pace, the choice is left up to you with how much you want to improve. For the more images you shoot and the more inspired and challenged you feel, the better photographer you become...improvement just happens.
