Brian Tremblay is a wedding, portrait and fine-art photographer, and a long-time member of Photoworkshop.com. In this Double Exposure interview, he tells us about his marketing strategies and how his Photoworkshop.com Galleries have helped in promoting his fine-art work.
Double Exposure: What type of photography do you specialize in?
Brian Tremblay: My bread and butter photography is portraits and weddings. But I have always had a passion for my personal work, which I guess you would refer to as fine-art photography.
DE: How long have you been a pro?
BT: I've been a photographer for sixteen years, but since 1998 it has been my full-time job.
DE: How are you marketing your work, and how have your Photoworkshop.com Portfolio pages helped your business?
BT: The marketing of my wedding and portrait business has taken years to learn how to market effectively. It would take more space than we have here to tell you how I do that.
When it comes to my personal photography and my art work, I decided to utilize the Photoworkshops Portfolio pages to introduce my work to galleries. I took a real grass-roots approach to getting in touch with the galleries. I used Google and did searches for galleries that showed photography. All of the gallery's web pages have a submissions section and the majority of them just ask that you send them an artist's statement, bio and link to where they can see your work. Of course I sent them to my Photoworkshop Portfolio. To make it sound more professional I purchased a domain name and pointed it at my portfolio, so it looks like I have my own web domain too.

DE: Any news or special projects you want to share?
BT: Presently I'm involved in a group show at a gallery outside of Ottawa called The Abbey for the Arts (http://www.theabbey.com). That show is called Beauty and the Beast. Also, I'm represented by two galleries. One in Ottawa called La Petite Mort (http://www.lapetitemortgallery.com) and one in Toronto Studio Vogue Gallery (http://www.studiovoguegallery.com). It's my opinion that because of my Photoworkshop Portfolios and how I used them that I got all this success with art galleries.
I'm also working on self publishing a local coffee table book called Sault Ste MarieAn Artist's View of His Home. That's starting to get some excitement and should be out next year.
And I'm working on an exhibit that will show at our local gallery. It's called Tribute and will showcase people from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario who have gone on to some notoriety and fameand some who are just community people who inspire me and whom I admire.

Oh, and next year I will be offering workshops herestay tuned for more info about those!
DE: How do you plan to utilize your Photoworkshop.com Portfolio in the future to help promote your work?
BT: I'll continue to use it as my calling card. I intend to keep it up to date with my latest work and showcase new projects when they come about. I've even created mail-outs that point people to the portfolio.
