| From Photoworkshop.com PWS Member News Sacred Spaces A photographic essay by Robyn Raggio Texoma Living Magazine May/June 2009 Vol. 3 No. 3 Photoworkshop.com member Robyn Raggio reports on her latest creative assignments in northern Texas, where she moved last year. She was deemed "Art Photographer" for Texoma Living Magazine published by Big Dog Publishing, L.L.C. The Publisher and Executive Editor is Dan Acree.
He gave Robyn the assignment of photographing the churches of Northern Texas—those small, community churches that have been there for generations. She even discovered her mother's church, First Baptist of Denison, which was founded in 1872. She describes this experience as truly a "spiritually inspired, architecturally adorned feast" for any image-maker. "These structures are rich with sculptural embellishments—red-roofed, plain with astounding stained glass, and everything in between. They asked me to feature spires, steeples, interesting doorways, windows, and the wear and tear wrought by the Faithful who have tread lightly up and down those sacred steps in search of comfort, salvation and Divine inspiration." Robyn says that the article grew to a photographic essay, spanning 9 pages with a single full-page image on each of those pages. She would like to thank Dan Acree and Texoma Living Magazine for the opportunity to visually explore this inspiratiional and greatly enjoyed assignment.
