On May 14, 2008, The Farmani Gallery opened its doors in DUMBO, New York to a packed house.  Farmani Gallery is originally based in Los Angeles, California and made the East Coast leap to a burgeoning photography community in time for the launch of the first annual New York Photo Festival.

Hossein Farmani, owner and founder said, “I am thrilled and excited to be a part of the New York Photography Community, and am overwhelmed by the support and turnout for our first show. It’s an exhilarating and refreshing time to open a new space, especially in DUMBO, where more and more galleries are opening their doors showing innovative new and vintage works. I look forward to showcasing the work of both well-known and emerging photographers in this exciting collective of gallery spaces.”

The gallery opened its doors by featuring the International Photography Awards Best of Show Portrait Edition, showing a sampling of winning images from the past 4 years of the competition (2004-2007).  Photographers included in this show are Matt Hoyle, Loretta Lux, Philp Gatward, Nadav Kander, Achim Lippoth, Julia Fullerton-Batten, Lauren Greenfield, Michael Grecco, Alex Telfer, Shannon McCook, Chris Frazier Smith, Andy Anderson, Klinko + Indrani, Gustavo Marx, Jim Fiscus, W. Brandon Voges, Clay Stang, Matthew Welch, Tomohide Ikeya, Paul Elledge, Ghada Khunji, Michael Crouser and Joyce Tenneson.

The show is a culmination of curated works by Anthony Bannon, Colin Westerbeck, Debra Weiss and Jeff Griffith.
