They're the name behind the high-profile series For Dummies, Teach Yourself VISUALLY, Frommer's Travel Guides and Webster's New World Dictionaries. Additionally, they publish best-selling titles that help readers get the most out of software and technology products. These include The Photoshop Bible and The Canon Digital Rebel Field Guide. Wiley's strength is demystifying complex subjects for readers while making their experiences using technology more enjoyable.



The Books:
Successful photo-industry writers, photographers and photography teachers—who present the material in a very enjoyable, inspiring manner—have written this series of books.


Macro Photography Photo Workshop (now available) addresses the challenges of macro and close-up photography, including depth of field, focus, and exposure. You’ll learn how to choose backgrounds, deal with wind and weather, using fill-flash and much more. The author, Haje Jan Kamps, is a freelance photographer and writer living in London, England, who founded www.photocritc.org, and is currently an editor of a technology and gadgets magazine.



Composition Photo Workshop (now available) motivates you to think creatively, and teaches the basic elements of design—points, lines, shapes
and forms—and how to incorporate these elements into your own photography. The author, Blue Fier, is a commercial advertising photographer who specializes in shooting on location. He’s shot numerous ad campaigns for major corporations, and for the past 15 years, he’s shared his knowledge in some very well-received photography courses at Southern California colleges.



Lighting Photo Workshop (now available) covers everything you need to know about that all-important element of photography, illumination. The instruction ranges from controlled studio lighting and flash systems to
working outdoors in bright or low-light conditions. You’ll learn how the right lighting can enhance color, contrast and lead to creative possibilities. The author, Chris Bucher, is a commercial photographer in Indianapolis whose images appear in corporate annual reports, ad campaigns and regional publications. In addition to his advertising and commercial work, Chris enjoys shooting family portraiture and landscapes.



Photos That Inspire Photo Workshop (available in October 2007) features over 200 beautiful images by Photoworkshop.com members and entries from
Double Exposure’s monthly contests. Every picture includes the technical “recipe” that the photographer used to create it, as well as the inspiration behind the image. The author, Lynne Eodice, is the managing editor of Double Exposure, published online by Photoworkshop.com. She is formerly the feature editor of Petersen’s PHOTOgraphic magazine, and has contributed to Rangefinder, California Tour & Travel, and Family Photo magazines. Her stock images have been marketed through Index Stock Imagery in New York.



Portrait and Candid Photography Photo Workshop (available in October 2007) explains the best techniques for taking both outstanding candid and
posed shots of people. Author Erin Manning, DIY Network host of "The Whole Picture," helps you gain the skills and confidence to successfully use the digital camera as a tool to create and capture life’s moments. With her well-honed knowledge and experience, she introduces not only the technology, but also the basics for developing an artistic eye, arming you with real-life techniques that will help you connect with and photograph people.



Canon EOS Digital Photography Photo Workshop (available in February 2008) will teach you the latest in Canon EOS digital technology. You’ll learn about Canon EF lenses, flash units and how to use your camera’s features to your best advantage. The author, Todd Klassy, is the president of SkyLink Networks, Inc. When shooting images, he experiments by using different methods and settings. He brackets everything and writes down what works and what doesn’t work. Landscape and architectural photography, and the process of capturing the wonders of light and color, are the tools he uses to record the many magnificent things he sees every day. Exposure Photo Workshop (available in February 2008) teaches all the variables of good exposure, including how to work with your camera’s light meter and compensating for light and dark subjects. The author, Jeff Wignall, is a photographer and writer and the author of numerous books on photography including, The Joy of Digital Photography (Lark Books, 2006), The Kodak Guide to Shooting Great Travel Pictures (Fodors Travel Publications, 2003), Kodak's Most Basic Book of 35mm Photography (Silver Pixel Press) and Winning Pictures (Silver Pixel Press). Jeff has been writing about photography for more than 30 years and is a former "Camera" columnist for the Sunday New York Times and is the former Technical Editor for Photo District News.



Photographing Children Photo Workshop (available in February 2008) teaches you innovative methods of photographing children—and your own family—by using natural environments and lighting. The author, Ginny Felch, was once a wedding photographer who became inspired to create children’s portraits. She obtained her Master of Photography through Professional Photographers of America, and has been coached by some of the top pros in her field. She’s exhibited her work widely, and her images appear in various magazines. Allison Tyler Jones is the contributing author who runs photo workshops in Arizona and has written two books on photography and scrapbooking.


The DVD:
Rick Sammon’s Canon EOS Digital Rebel Personal Training Photo Workshop DVD (DVD-only available in July 2007/Book and DVD available November 2007) is packed with video lessons, and teaches you how to turn your snapshots into great shots. Learn by Doing
The books and DVDs in the Photo Workshop series have an edge over traditional photography instructional guides, as they're project-oriented. Assignments at the end of each chapter will help you put your knowledge to practice. You’ll have the opportunity to post your assignments on Photoworkshop.com where others can view your work and offer suggestions. The books and DVDs also provide trial access to members-only Photoworkshop.com content.

You may upload more than one image for each assignment, but we recommend a maximum of three. Detailed critiques on even a single image will help you grow more as a photographer. Return often to see what others have said about your work. You’ll have total control over the critiques and comments that other participants give your images. You can respond to comments, remove them, or update your original introductory comment. And if you’re a Photoworkshop.com member, you can even move your assignment to your Bio & Visual Exchange page for permanent display.
